FLOAT APPLICATION

Float Application

Each year we strive to make our parade bigger and better. We welcome more floats! Non-profit organizations, school groups, churches, businesses, individuals are all invited to put a float in the parade.

If funds are tight for materials, please consider contacting a local business to sponsor you– they just might like the opportunity to support you and to promote their business. The business could provide the money for decorations and your group can design and construct the float. Both names can appear on the float. A brief description/comment about the float during the parade can provide additional recognition for both. Businesses are also encouraged to put in their own float!

Monetary awards are presented at the end of the parade.

  • 1st place – $175.00
  • 2nd place – $125.00
  • 3rd place – $ 75.00

All participating high school bands will receive a check for $225.00 show-up money at parade line-up. It is
hoped this will help defray travel costs. Judging will be provided by NNYPMJA.

There will be someone to assist you with locating your area beginning at 9:30am. Please arrive by 9:30am if possible. We will start moving the parade right at 11:00am.

The location this year will be at the Sackets Harbor school fields on the Campbell’s Point Road (County Rt. 75).

It will be easier if you come down Rt. 3 and turn onto County Rt. 75 to come to the school field. Someone will be available to tell you what number your unit will be. The field will also be used to unload the buses and as a practice area for the bands. Bathroom facilities will be available through the entrance at the back of the school. Drivers, after unloading, can leave their buses parked at the school. It will be easier for you to get out of the village if you park at the school. If you feel it is more convenient you may park buses at the Public Safety Building on West Washington Street and Hill Street which is at the end of the parade route.

The parade route will leave Campbell’s Point Road (County Rt. 75) and continue to West Main Street where you will make a left turn. The Reviewing Stand and Judges will be on the right at the foot of the hill at the entrance to the public marina. At the end of West Main Street the route will turn left onto Hill Street and continue across West Washington Street past the Public Safety Building and left onto Jefferson Street.

A detailed schedule will be provided to the emcees. We would appreciate any fill-in material you can provide on your entry. Please contact me by July 1, 2017 with your write-up.

Floats will be judged this year as in the past and money prizes awarded for 1st, 2nd, 3rd places.

Concerts will be held in front of the Reviewing Stand immediately following the parade.

*For the after parade concerts please face the Visitor’s Center Lawn when performing the concerts, not the reviewing stand. Bands will enter from the left of the area and exit from the right. Awards will be presented at the Visitor Center Front Porch for Classes A, B and C as soon as the judges complete their paperwork. Please designate a person to accept your award.

Following the parade and concert your group might enjoy the many activities planned for the weekend. Please visit our web-site at www.canamfestival.com for a full listing of events.
